SICE awarded with the Backbone Network and Master Clock systems for the new Eglinton Crosstown LRT line in Toronto, Canada

The Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) project, is a 19km light rail transit  line owned by Metrolinx and operated by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

SICE will provide the Backbone Communications Network and Master Clock systems for the project, the largest LRT project in Canada.

SICE with this new project is consolidating its position as ITS integrator for the railways sector in North America.

The Crosstown will be operational in 2021 and Crosslinx Transit Solutions Constructors (CTSC), a general partnership comprised of SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Inc., Dragados Canada, Inc., EllisDon Civil Ltd. and Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., has been appointed for the construction of the project.

The corridor will include a 10-kilometre underground portion, between Keele Street and Laird Drive, and will have 25 stops and stations, linking to bus routes, three subway stations and various GO Transit lines. The project also includes a maintenance and storage facility at Weston Road.

The bored tunnels and revenue vehicles have been procured separately , with the remainder of the infrastructure and systems coming under the responsibility of Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) including the maintenance depot, elevated guideway, cut and cover tunnels, at- grade guideway, stations, stops and all Systems elements including the Track, Traction Power System (TPS), Overhead Catenary System (OCS), Communications, Signalling and Train Control System (S&TCS) and Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS).

The Backbone Communications Network is to provide the high-speed, integrated and redundant MPLS based data transmission platform between the communications sub-system elements and field devices located in all the ECLRT facilities. The scope includes the network security devices, both hardware and software, to achieve the cybersecurity objectives of the project, as well as the network management system.

The Master Clock System for the ECLRT line shall provide a common time source for all network connected devices. The system will include two Global Positioning System (GPS) based Network Time Protocol (NTP) clock sources in a redundant primary and backup configuration.
